Four Ceremonial Shields for Tambaran House

These four wonderful shields are decorated with mosaics made of feathers. They are named Molon and portray a large human face, an animal and various decorations.

They all come from Melanesia and they were brought to Europe in 1930 by the explorer Gregory Bateson. Some of them are presently in the Cambridge Museum. These objects are extremely rare, since their production did not continue after the Natives came in contact with Eurepeans.
