Sandro Filipepi, known as Botticelli
(Florence 1445 1510)
Reading the fresco from right
to left, one can identify Moses in various stages of his life: in the act of killing
the Egyptian who did harm to an Israelite, as he escaped from Egypt, when he defended the
daughters of Jethro from the shepards and then assisted the daughters to give water to the
sheep, as he took off his sandles before approaching the burning bush, and finally, when
he lead the Jews out of Egypt. |
