Depicted here is a
rarely represented incident which took place while Moses and his family were returning
from Midian to Egypt, after the Lord had charged Moses with the liberation of the
Israelites. In the background, Moses takes leave of his father-in-law before
returning to Egypt. On the left, in the foreground, Moses meets the angel sent to punish
him for not having circumsized his son; on the right, is depicted the Circumcision of
Moses' son. |
