This
type disk-shaped handle came from an oil lamp dating from the IV and V century A.D.
At the center of the embellished handle is the Constantinian monogram flanked by the
apocalyptic letters of the alpha and the omega. Along with being a finely executed
piece of bronze-work, it serves as a rare documentation of the art and faith of the Roman
Christian community in the first centuries after the death of Christ.
STATE
OF PRESERVATION:
The surfaces have been altered by an unstable varnish
There are corrosions of the surface especially in the lower part and on
the back, along with structural cracks
