This large statue of Buddha is portrayed seated in the lotus position and with the gesture of meditation (dyhanimudra). At the top of its head there is a cranial protuberance, symbol of an adventure of illumination.  The statue was donated from the missionaries in China to the Vatican in 1925 for the World Missionary Exhibition. 

RESTORATION PROCESS:

  • Cleaning of the gold leaves and of the tempura painting

  • Fixation of the detaching parts

  • Refinishing of the gilding, where necessary

  •  Photographic documentation
