Plaster (painted multi-colored), iron frame

This sculpture in plaster is one of the rarest and most precious examples of the famous modern Italian artist, Marino Marini.  Marini dedicated many of his works to a man and a horse, re-working the subject matter over the course of the years, transforming it both stylistically and contextually.  The monument and heroic static of his first horsemen (from the ‘30’s) were surpassed by compositions ever-more elegant and synthetic.  Marini explored this subject in a wide variety of materials, from plaster and stone to bronze, in highly varied chromatic and compositional schemes.  In this work in plaster the sculptor has accomplished a work of monumental tragedy and heroism while making it a work of high spiritual and aesthetic value.
