New
International Coordinator for the Office of the
Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museums
Dear Patrons,
Please receive my warmest greetings from the President’s
office in the Vatican Governatorate. I am pleased
to inform you that as of October 1st, we have a
new International Coordinator for the Office of
the Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museums.
You may have already heard a little about him, thanks
to the various chapter and personal visits from
Chicago, Houston, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania
and California!
Father Mark Haydu, L.C. was born and raised in
Akron, OH and has been living and working in Rome
for the past six years. He is highly qualified academically
as well as professionally and we feel lucky to have
him. His academic formation includes degrees in
classical art and humanities, philosophy and theology.
He speaks Italian, Spanish and English. He has worked
over 8 years in directing formation programs at
the Legionary’s seminaries in Dublin, Salamanca,
Cheshire, CT and Rome. During his time in Rome,
as well as being a seminary formator, he has worked
in fundraising and direction of pilgrim groups.
He is also an experienced tour guide and official
Vatican guide of the excavations under the St. Peter’s
Basilica.
Father Mark was ordained a priest for the Legionaries
of Christ on December 22nd at the Roman Basilica
of St Mary Major. Many of us were able to join him
on that special day.
He is an enthusiastic and dedicated man and I am
confident that he will provide solid leadership
with a spirit of humble service to all our Patrons.
I invite you to welcome Deacon Mark and support
him as he begins this important mission.
I also would like to announce that a new set of
guidelines is being drafted for our Patrons Office
in Rome. We have seen the need over the past year
of having a clear structure that will guarantee
stability, yet allow the necessary flexibility for
the growth of our international organization. I
will ask the Patron leaders to share their valuable
feedback with Deacon Mark before finalizing the
draft. We hope to finish the definite form of the
guidelines by March, 2008.
I would be remiss in not thanking all of you for
the support and direction you offer the Patrons
in your different chapters. Your hard work and dedication
is an essential element of the success of the Vatican
Museums and I am truly grateful.
May God bless you all.
Sincerely yours,
Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo
